The Caselberg Trust announced today that its Creative Connections Resident 2023 will be composer/performer Alison Isadora. Born in Potakere (Port Chalmers), Alison splits her time between Aotearoa and the Netherlands, and has an extensive and impressive list of creative musical projects to date, with a particular interest in collaborative co-creation compositional processes.
Alison is currently studying for a PhD at Victoria University, and has attended Canterbury University, Amsterdam University, and the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. Her most recent, and most ambitious work Together#6 for Ensemble Modelo62 and Participants, is a co-creation project which was performed in Amsterdam in September 2021, with further planned performances in Canada and The Netherlands in 2023.
Whilst on her Creative NZ sponsored 3 month Caselberg Trust Creative Connections residency in 2023 Alison will be working on a project provisionally titled “Listening to Place – Sounding the Peninsula”, which will involve taking soundwalks and recordings on the Otago Peninsula, holding listening workshops with the community to encourage people to record sounds from their environment, and to work with professional musicians to create a composition and performance that incorporates the sounds she and the community have collected.
