Blue Oyster Caselberg Trust Summer Resident for 2022

Blue Oyster is pleased to announce Madison Kelly as Blue Oyster Caselberg Trust Summer Resident for 2022. Over three weeks, from Thursday 6 January, Kelly will be based at the Caselberg Trust House and Charles Brasch Studio in Broad Bay, developing research and artwork for her upcoming exhibition with Blue Oyster, opening in late 2022. 

Kelly’s residency will focus on the relationship between touch and ecosystems relevant to the early meeting points of ancestors Ihirāpeti Patahi and Edwin Palmer.  She looks forward to spending time with the harbour, and exploring different sensory links to both human and nonhuman whakapapa.

Established in 2006, The Caselberg Trust invites artists, writers, composers and creative practitioners to complete their projects in a harbourside cottage and studio, situated in the heart of the Otago Peninsula, one of Aotearoa’s well-known southern havens for creativity. The Trust also promotes and hosts a variety of arts events and competitions open to schools and the wider Otago/Southland community.

Madison Kelly (Kāi Tahu, Kāti Mamoe, Pākehā, b.1994) graduated from the Dunedin School of Art in 2017, with a BVA (Hons First Class) in drawing. Grounded in field recording processes, her Ōtepoti based practice aims to reckon with interspecies histories and futures.
