An evening with the conductor
This was a wonderful evening of entertainment and insight into the world of conducting from retired international conductor, Stephen Estall, at a great new venue in town, The Dish Cafe & Bar.
Around 70 people came to enjoy Stephen’s humorous anecdotes and descriptions of life as a conductor noting some of the intricacies and challenges of conducting an orchestra. Quoting an early teacher, Prof. John Ritchie, “When everyone in an orchestra starts at the same time, a small miracle has happened.”
Stephen brought these challenges to life, followed by demonstrations of conducting firstly to Beethoven’s Coriolanus overture then later to Wagner’s Overture to Tannhauser.
Thank you to Stephen, to The Dish Cafe & Bar, and to the whole Caselberg team for a fabulous evening.
