Meeting the artist
Around 25 brave folk ventured forth today arriving by car, bus and foot on this grey, drizzly, damp afternoon to meet the wonderful Lucy Marinkovich, the Caselberg Trust’s Creative Connections Resident for 2020/1, in the warmth of the Brasch Studio at the Caselberg House in Broad Bay.
There was a chatty, buzzy atmosphere enhanced by the tasty food platters and some fine wines and we were charmed and engrossed by Lucy’s informative and enthusiastic descriptions of her work with the Broad Bay School students on small scale stage and theatre designs and productions. Lucy, a dance performance practitioner, also explained the second part of her Residency, working towards a dance performance piece based on toroa, the albatross, with more than a nod to early dance performers, Loie Fuller and Isadora Duncan, that is to be premiered in Dunedin in September.
Lucy is also currently the University of Otago Caroline Plummer Fellow and she briefly talked of her work here introducing dance with live music as a form of movement ‘therapy’ to people living with Parkinson’s. All in all, it was a very interesting, engaging, uplifting and enjoyable way to spend a grey, drizzly damp afternoon.
