Blue Oyster is pleased to announce that Abigail Aroha Jensen is our Caselberg artist in residence for 2025!

Abigail Aroha Jensen is an artist based in Kirikiriroa. She has a BMA from Waikato Institute of Technology with Honours from Toihoukura, School of Māori Visual Arts.

Recent exhibitions include R. Boudoir, RM (2022); Rope Play (I-IV), sites across Tāmaki Makaurau, Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Köln and Busan (2022-24); Spring Time is Heart-break: Contemporary Art in Aotearoa, Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhteū (2023); Glittering Images, Grace Aotearoa (2024); Inside my papahou: puoro tuatini. Her site, Désirée – ā whakamātao owha, co-comissioned by Te Tuhi and the Busan Biennale Organising Committee, Busan Biennale, South Korea (2024); and Tūpiki (2024), Riki Pirihi and Jensen’s debut album on vinyl released through Audio Foundation records.

Jensen will be at the Caselberg house for three weeks over January, and is keen to have time spent at the residency to process thinking, making field recordings, weaving and drawing images and scores.
